What is Search Engine Optimisation, Really?

It’s a question that I get asked on a regular basis – What is Search Engine Optimisation, Really?

SEO is the process of configuring a website so that it can be found in a search engine results list for a particular “Keyword or Phrase”. It is about ensuring that the elements are present within the website that a search engine, such as Google, are looking for to help index and rank each page.

It is therefore vital that if you are looking to generate business through your website then it does need to be properly optimised, measured and constantly tweaked.

The basic process hasn’t changed in several years;

  • A good website structure that allows every page of the website to be found and catalogued in a logical way.
  • Use your search phrases as links to pages in the navigation and in the actual pages.
  • Good original content.
  • Each page and image requires good relevant Titles, Meta Descriptions and Alternative Titles.
  • A fast-loading website.
  • Other websites linking to you yours.
