On the eighth day of Christmas

"On the eighth day of Christmas,
My true love sent to me,
The Oscars new look,
WestJet's Christmas video,
A range of homepage designs,
2014's web design extinctions,
2013's most talked about Facebook Topics,
An ode on Christmas adverts,
A cap on children's spending,
And a Christmas card of a celebrity family"

The Amsterdam and LA based consultancy 180LA have worked alongside the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to create a new brand identity for both the Academy and the 86th Oscar awards, taking place in March 2014.

Here is what I have to say about it…

The Academy has launched a new logo design,
Predominantly triangular, with a trophy outline,
It is sure to be on show at next year’s award,
Where nominees will win or fall on their sword

The Oscars, for me, symbolise both glamour and fame,
On first glance, I felt the logo was in a different ball game,
But when you break it down, instead of seeing it as a whole,
The concept is pretty sound and portrays the Academy’s soul.

The statuette has been placed so it’s viewed from below,
With admiration and hope that you’ll win the show,
It’s effective how the statue unites with the ‘A’,
Showing the Academy’s status for more than one day.

What are your thoughts on the new logo? Do you prefer it to the previous?

Over and Out
